honours in Philosophy. He specialised in mathematical and philosophical logic and the writings of
Kant and Hegel, and submitted a thesis entitled Anti-Realism and Theories of Meaning, which likewise
was awarded a First Class grade. |

Matthew then went on to study law at the College of Law in London, where for his CPE exams he came 14th
in a class of over 600 and was awarded the Clifford Chance Prize.

Matthew studied for his LLM in international law and economics at the University of Chicago Law School,
where he came top of his class. He then went on to pursue his doctoral degree at the same university,
supervised by Richard Posner, the prominent American jurist and Federal Appellate Judge on the US Court of Appeals
for the Seventh Circuit; and his son Eric Posner, the well-known University of Chicago academic and proponent of
realism in contemporary international relations. |
